Dear Flist....
Feb. 3rd, 2012 06:24 pmTo paraphrase the long-suffering Lord Spencer, First Lord of the Admiralty....
The state of my home internet connection is such to preclude my being able as yet to flatter myself with the possibility of complying with your wishes to write that 10,000 word pwp pirate / maritime historian epic slash fic.
Yep, my home internet connection suddenly died a death last night and it could be Tuesday before we get it fixed. *sigh* I have internet here at work but I will be leaving shortly, once I have downloaded some lovely fic from
following_sea to keep me going over the weekend.
Thanks for all your highly appropriate comments on the charming maritime historians. Your outrage warms the cockles of my heart :) Hopefully I'll be able to catch up with comments next week.
Have a good weekend folks and I'll look forward to catching up with y'all on Monday once I'm back in the office. Look after the Navyboys while I'm offline and don't do anything I wouldn't! Or if you do, take pictures ;)
I remain as always
Your most affectionate etc, etc

Date: 2012-02-03 07:15 pm (UTC)Still, I suppose a person can write without it, (Looks at Anteros with a hopeful smile.) But I know that one can also do laundry without it, and errands, ans shopping and kid wrangling, and man wrangling, and -- well that is how my weekends seem to go. Suspect yours may be similar.
Will wait for your hail on Monday.

Date: 2012-02-06 11:34 pm (UTC)Hard to believe isn't it?! I have liberated a wireless 3G modem from work to tide me over until my broadband gets fixed.
Laundry - check, errands - check, shopping - check, kid wrangling - check, man wrangling - check. My weekends sounds a lot like yours ;)
I had high hopes for writing tomorrow, as it's my day off, but toots has developed a raging temperature out of nowhere so I suspect she will not be fit for school in the morning. Poor chicken :(

Date: 2012-02-07 09:09 am (UTC)I currently have a puzzled network engineer in the house trying to figure out what's wrong with the broadband. Perhaps once he goes I'll manage to write something. I have a fic that's almost finished though unfortunately it mainly involves Hornblower being miserable on the Hotspur :/

Date: 2012-02-06 11:47 am (UTC)The only comfort I can offer is that sometimes it is useful to be able honsestly to say one has not seen an order - particularly if it comes from Bridport - the gallant Nelson is of course famous for the blind eye thing but any decent commander knows when not to know.
I wonder would your little girl like a camel of her own? =there are also a few sheep might help keep your lawn at bay -I rather think you know what my reception will be should I arrive in Falmouth with yet more livestock ...
Trust restoration will be soon arranged - and you may keep Mr Kennedy for a week at least you know = especially if he offloads the menagerie while he is there.
your ever loyal friend,
Ned

Date: 2012-02-06 11:55 pm (UTC)A delight to receive your correspondence as always. And how uncommonly kind of you to despatch a fine lieutenant with an array of signalling flags. I shall look forward to learning the secrets of nautical hoists from Mr Kennedy. Rest assured he will be in good hands....
Alas I must decline the honour of housing your menagerie however. While I believe we could indeed accommodate a number of oriental quadrupeds, providing they are not of the elephantine variety, I must protest against the tigers. I fear the guinea pigs next door would be in mortal terror. To say nothing of the children. My own dear cub might well appreciate the company of the baboons but alas she is somewhat under the weather as I write. I fear she would derive greater benefit from a dose of Mr Cookworthy's than from the high spirits of monkeys at present.
I am gratified to remain your fondest etc, etc

PS Perhaps young Cadogan might house your beasts? I believe he is inordinately fond of felines.
