This season I shall mostly be wearing....

This rather gorgeous dress from the V&A dates from 1872 and is inspired by sailors uniforms. Personally speaking I'm frequently inspired by sailors uniforms but my inspiration tends to lead in other directions ;)

The catalogue entry reads as follows:

This is a jaunty, sensible woman’s outfit of the early 1870s designed for boating or seaside walking. A hemline just at the ankle indicates a garment intended for walking outdoors. The style of the dress has been inspired by the colours and stripes of sailors' uniforms. It is made of cotton, so it is easily washed and dried. Despite its practical use, the ensemble still incorporates the details of fashionable dress, with an overskirt in front and a bustle worn underneath at the back.

Perfect for the Age of Sail fangirl!

Yes the colours are gorgeous aren't they? The skirt is rather voluminous but I bet you could hide a couple of mids under there! ;)

Which of course is the best use for a crinoline ever. The mids would have to be really slim and limber, too, which is a bonus.

ROFL! You might even manage to fit a brace of powder monkeys under there if you were lucky!

The powder monkey might be a tad bit young, though. Despite what you might have heard, I do draw a line at prepubescent!

Fair enough. More space of the slim and limber mids to cavort!

It has started out innocently enough, with a civilised chat about fashion. And all of a sudden there's limber mids cavorting.

Dont worry, I'm sure there must be some kind of fortifying Victorian concoction to banish cavorting mids from one's nether regions.

That is a relief. I was getting worried about the state of my petticoats after the mids had cavorted in them, as it were.

*Tries hard not to imagine mids cavorting in petticoats*

*Fails*

Miss Kitty would be delighted to lend her petticoats for cavorting purposes, I am sure.

Now I am picturing the moment when the children come out of the dress of the Sugar Plum Fairy.(In the Nutcracker,)But I am seeing them as mids of course.
