Bee Meadow

I adore wild flowers, always have done. When I was wee my mother taught me the names of all the wild flowers on the island and I used to spend hours and hours collecting, pressing and drawing them. In the park beside where I live there is a "bee meadow", a patch of grass left uncut and sown with native wild flowers to attract bees. It's absolutely glorious. I love the way it changes colour as the different flowers come into season. Just now it is all white and yellow, with ox eye daisies, yellow vetch and yellow rattle. Later it will be the pinks, ragged robin and red clover and finally blue, with cornflowers and scabious. This picture doesn't remotely do it justice, but I've found over the years that it's really hard to photograph large swathes of wild flowers.

I've been so stupidly busy at work recently that I haven't had a chance to have a walk in the park for almost a month. I've been doing a lot of traveling too and the seasons have changed while I've been away. The last time I walked through the park the pink cherries weren't yet in bloom, now the flowers are falling in drifts all over the paths. It's lovely, but I seem to have missed something somewhere along the line!

I promised [livejournal.com profile] katriona_s that I would take a picture of Scottish cherry blossom for her. Unfortunately the weather had been very dull and overcsst for the last week so this is the best I've managed. I live in hope of blue skies though!

Earlier this week I waved cheerio to [livejournal.com profile] nodbear after a very industrious, if rather hectic visit. We managed to write the first draft of the seminar we're doing at the National Museum of the Royal Navy in May. 8000 words in 5 days. Not bad going! Of course some of it may be gibberish but we can edit it later :}

We also went for a walk up to the park beside where I live. The hyacinths were in bloom and smelled glorious, and the hellebores were stunning. Hellebores are rather shy retiring flowers, they hang their heads so modestly that it's hard to see their lovely colours, however we discovered that it I flipped the camera on my iphone round, we could photograph them from underneath. Ta da! Pretty no?

Hello people! I haven't fallen off the face of teh internets, just busy with work and up to my eyes in toot's birthday celebrations. Turning eight is serious business. Yesterday it was inlaws and family and there may have been rum cocktails involved somewhere along the line, and today it's trips to the zoo and sleepovers and if I'm still in one piece on Sunday it will be a miracle! In the meantime here's a tree to looks at. Took this on Tuesday morning, it was a beautiful day but still cold and frosty. Hope things are all good with you guys. A x

-3C

It was -3C this morning when I took this picture and it's barely risen above freezing all day. And guess who's going out to the rugby tonight? Partner was wondering it they have under pitch heating, if they do, I will be down there lying on on the pitch!
